Manage your profile

Sign in to your Google Business Profile

You can find your business on Google, but there is nowhere to edit it. You usually do not need another profile. First, get to the existing one using the Google Account that manages it.

The short answer

Sign in with the Google Account that manages your profile. Search for your business name and town, or ‘my business’. Management options such as Edit profile and Read reviews indicate that you have access.

Find your profile

  1. Open Google and check which Google Account is signed in at the top right.
  2. Search for your business name and town, or open Google Business Profile.
  3. Select the correct business if you manage several locations.
  4. Use Read reviews for customer reviews and Edit profile for business information.

In the Google Maps app, you can also use the Business tab. Controls can move between devices, accounts and interface versions. A different layout does not necessarily mean you have lost access.

You can see the business but cannot edit it

Seeing a public listing is different from having management access. Check the account before starting verification or creating another profile. You might have a personal account, a work account and an older account used when the business opened.

Switch accounts through your profile picture and search again. Ask a colleague or previous agency which email address has access. An existing owner can invite you through People and access in the profile settings. Do not share a password.

Quick sign-in check

What can you see on Google?

You have management options. Select Read reviews to respond, or Edit profile to update business information.

Someone else controls the profile

If the profile is already claimed and you cannot reach its owner, use Google’s ownership request process. Creating a second profile for the same location does not resolve the access issue and can produce duplicate listings.

Record who the primary owner is and who makes daily changes. Give people access appropriate to their role and remove outdated access when someone leaves or an agency contract ends.

Build a manageable routine

Once you are signed in, check your opening hours and unanswered reviews as well as the change you came to make. Assign one person to check regularly. That works better than several people assuming someone else is doing it.

You can reply directly in Google. StarMagnet becomes useful when keeping track and writing replies repeatedly falls behind. Learn how to reply to Google reviews or manage several locations.

In StarMagnet, first sign in using a secure email link. Then connect the Google Account that manages your Business Profile from the customer app. The public business check on the website works without an account; your connected review workspace requires Google authorisation.

Frequently asked questions

Is Google My Business the same as Google Business Profile?

Google My Business is the former name. You manage your existing listing through Google Business Profile; you do not need to create a replacement.

Do I need a Gmail address?

You need a Google Account with access to the profile. That account does not have to use a Gmail address.

Why can I only see the public listing?

Check that you are signed in as an owner or manager. A public listing being visible does not give your account management access.
